Eversheds races to the Finnish line
Eversheds has expanded into Finland as Juridia Bützow becomes part of the global firm. The new Finnish operation is now known as JB Eversheds and adds 165 staff to the growing global footprint of Eversheds; now in 31 countries with more than 4000 staff.
 
Orrick faces criminal proceedings at fledgling Ivory Coast office
Last month Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe became the first international law firm to begin practising in The Ivory Coast. Now it is facing the possibility of criminal proceedings for allegedly misrepresenting two of its lawyers as being members of the local bar according to The Financial Times.
 
Myanmar firm re-opens after 12 years
A Myanmar law practice that closed in 2002 after authorities imposed sanctions on foreign firms has re-opened. LWA Consultants was an offshoot of Lucy Wayne’s Vietnamese firm. When the practice closed Wayne relocated to the US but has now moved back to Myanmar to re-open the firm as Lucy Wayne Associates. She is joined by Zicolaw’s former Myanmar managing partner Win Naing.
 
Patient sues hospital for allowing TV crew to watch rectal exam
A Canadian man has filed a lawsuit against a hospital and TV crew after it emerged that what he assumed were medical staff were actually from a TV show. Walter Fisher is claiming $100,000 in damages for what he says was a breach of his privacy and assault and battery. Fisher alleges that medical staff were joined and possibly even assisted by staff from the medical drama Saving Hope. He has filed the lawsuit through Doug Elliott of law firm Cambridge LLP.

Banking and financial lawyer Dale Rayner has joined Norton Rose Fulbright as a partner and not HSF as previously stated. Apologies for the error and we wish Dale success in his new role. He was most recently at Clifford Chance.
