M&A to boost Sydney legal jobs market

A surge in Australian M&A activity may soon push what Robert Walters terms a “turbulent twelve months” for legal recruitment in 2013 into the realms of distant memory.

Robert Walters’ 2014 Salary Survey says lawyers with experience in M&A will be some of the most in-demand this year in Sydney as the M&A market improves.

The recruitment firm said other areas of demand include firms looking for lawyers with corporate law, commercial litigation and financial services regulation experience.

Robert Walters suggests that partner-level lawyers who moved to smaller organisations last year will be looking for support from strong mid-level to senior associate-level lawyers.

However, firms will first have to collectively shake off the gloom of 2013, with news coverage of redundancies and salary freezes having shaken confidence “severely”.
