Lighter Side: Celebrity looks for legal love

This A-list Hollywood hunk could surely have chosen anyone to propose to… but he chose a lawyer

London law firm Doughty Street Chambers confirmed the worst-kept secret in Hollywood last week when it sent out a congratulatory message to one of its lawyers and actor George Clooney on their engagement.

Media speculation that Clooney had gone back on his vow never to remarry grew after his girlfriend, human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin, was spotted wearing a giant rock on her ring finger at a Los Angeles restaurant.

Clooney's representative declined to comment on the actor's personal life, but shortly after Alamuddin's law firm released a statement:
"The barristers and staff of Doughty Street Chambers offer their best wishes and congratulations to Ms Amal Alamuddin, a member of Chambers, and Mr George Clooney, on their engagement to be married," the firm said.

However, Clooney is not the first Hollywood star to marry a lawyer.

Seth Meyers of Saturday Night Live fame married long-time girlfriend Alexi Ashe in 2013 –  Ashe is also human rights lawyer.

And just this year former "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star Taylor Armstrong married her own lawyer, John Bluher.

And in late 2012 Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir married his lawyer boyfriend Victor Voronov.
