Both lawyers have been with the firm for more than five years
KCL Law has promoted a new principal lawyer and a new senior associate as of 1 July.
Construction and infrastructure law specialist Damien Simonetti has been elevated to principal lawyer. He has been part of KCL Law since 2014.
His clients include builders and developers, and he works with them on medium-to-large commercial, infrastructure and domestic projects that involve various Australian and international standard contracts. He conducts litigation and arbitration in all Australian jurisdictions, and provides advice on disputes.
In addition, Simonetti assists on matters related to Australian consumer law, insolvency and bankruptcy, distressed projects, insurance, proportionate liability, security of payment, personal property security, contract, negligence and equity. He became a senior associate within KCL Law in 2018.
“Damien’s appointment is a significant milestone and one that is truly deserved. Damien has comprehensive legal, technical and industry knowledge and, since joining the firm, has built and maintained strong client relationships,” said principal lawyer Darren Cain, who heads up the construction and infrastructure team.
Arnie Vijayakumar, who practices within KCL Law’s litigation and dispute resolution team, was elevated to senior associate. He first joined the firm in 2013.
He has particular expertise in general commercial, corporations and insolvency litigation, with experience in building and construction litigation, financial services litigation, real property litigation, defamation and international commercial arbitration. He has appeared before the Federal Court, Federal Circuit Court, Supreme Court of Victoria, County Court, Magistrates Court, VCAT and Administrative Appeals Tribunal.
Vijayakumar advises individuals, SME’s, publicly listed companies, accountants and insolvency practitioners. He became an associate with KCL Law in 2017.
