Johnson Winter & Slattery has appointed Joseph Scarcella as a partner in Sydney. He joins from Ashurst, where he was also a partner.

Scarcella has been a member of Ashurst’s restructuring and insolvency group in Sydney for the past 20 years. He specialises in all aspects of insolvency administrations, insolvency related litigation, restructuring techniques and workouts.

His experience includes advising on complex insolvencies including the collapse of multi-jurisdictional hedge fund, finance, and insurance companies. His clients include domestic and international insolvency practitioners, ASX-listed corporations, investment banks, and litigation funders.

He was featured on Australasian Lawyer’s Hot List in 2016, cited for his roles as lead partner for the liquidators of HIH in the landmark HIH Insurance Limited case and the liquidator of Babcock & Brown.
