While the legal industry has improved in the gender diversity stakes, in terms of cultural diversity, it is still lagging. For example, only 3.1% of partners, 1.6% of barristers and 0.8% of the judiciary are Asian-Australian compared to the population where 10% have an Asian background.

Gender diversity programs need to be coupled with broader diversity initiatives for firms really reap the benefits. Indeed, studies have shown improvements in productivity and performance, and business outcomes, including financial performance.

At the upcoming Women in Law Summit, hear from Katrina Rathie, Partner in Charge at King & Wood Mallesons; Lee-May Saw, Barrister with Frederick Jordan Chambers; Kathryn Viegas, Director of Nomos Legal and Ourania Konstantinidis, Partner at Dentons on how law firms an implement diversity and inclusion initiatives in their workplace.

They will discuss overcoming real and perceived barriers to career progress for women from different cultural backgrounds, diversity and inclusion initiatives that empower women from various backgrounds and how women can show their support for broader diversity initiatives.
