Highlight: 2022 Rising Star understands that legal spend is 'always a factor' in insurance

Funda Karabacak has been a qualified solicitor for three years, but she is already a mentor to paralegals and junior lawyers. The seasoned insurance practitioner has amassed significant experience in the areas of personal injury, professional indemnity, recovery of complex and heavy claims (exceeding $30m), matters relating to fraud and investigation claims, policy and indemnity issues, and wills and estates, among others.

The Holman Webb associate has stood out among other lawyers at her level because of her significant commercial acumen when it comes to providing legal advice – a skill that the firm said “often takes decades to properly develop”. In dealing with clients, Karabacak seeks to understand their strategic objectives, taking into account that “legal spend is always a factor in the insurance industry”.

She has appeared before the Local Court, District Court, Supreme Court, Federal Court and Federal Circuit Court, the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal and the Australian Financial Complaints Authority, and AAT over the course of her career.

At present, Karabacak operates from Sydney. She also conducts training on motor vehicle matters.

Australasian Lawyer released the Rising Stars 2022 report in March 2022.
