DLA Piper focuses on Asia-Pac innovation with new hire
A former transformation and change expert at Ashurst has been hired by DLA Piper to drive innovation in the international law firm.
Adam Hembury’s focus as director of innovation will be on the Asia Pacific and EMEA regions although he will also work with colleagues in the US. His experience spans 30 years and includes the European arm of Aussie insurer QBE.
DLA Piper’s co-global CEO Simon Levine said that the firm has to “embed a culture of innovation” in order to deliver the services that clients demand.
Hembury’s role will build on the firm’s recent innovations including flexible lawyers, the Legal Delivery Centre and its AI solution Kira.

The legal profession in the UK has been reacting to the British prime minister’s Brexit speech which recognized the complexities of the road ahead.
Among those commenting was Hogan Lovells partner Charles Brasted, who is a key member of the firm’s Brexit taskforce. He said that every one of the aspirations expressed by Theresa May would “demand exceptional political skill to negotiate and will be complex to implement legally and commercially.”
The bespoke deal sought by the British government will require tough negotiation but and Brasted acknowledged that Mrs May’s speech had been “keen to reassure businesses and others by highlighting the intention for continuity of laws and rules immediately post-Brexit.”
Meanwhile, Gavin Williams, partner at Herbert Smith Freehills said that the speech showed the government’s grasp of the complex challenges ahead.
CMS Hong Kong gets new leader
The Hong Kong office of international firm CMS has a new leader in finance partner Tim Elliot.
Elliot has relocated to the region from London together with German CMS partner Nicolas Wiegand and will focus on building out the firm’s finance offering alongside its newly established disputes practice.
The firm also has offices in Shanghai, Beijing and Singapore.
