The transaction brings the latest power supply equipment to the Northern Territory’s third-largest town

DLA Piper acts on major renewable energy project
DLA Piper has acted on a renewable energy transaction between Territory Generation (T-Gen) and Vector Energy aimed at improving power generation reliability for the Northern Territory.

T-Gen has selected Vector Energy as the preferred supplier for the installation of a 5MW battery energy storage system (BESS) under its Alice Springs Battery Energy Storage System Project.

Finance & Projects partner Dan Brown led the DLA Piper team, which included senior associate Marnie Carroll, solicitors Codie Gippel and Jasemine Altinkaya, and graduate Christine Chang.

"We are proud to have worked with T-Gen on this market-defining renewable energy project,” said Brown. “This energy storage system will no doubt be the first of many other renewable energy generation and storage solutions that T-Gen will lead in the region, and we look forward to partnering them again in the future."

The BESS, which will be located at the Sadadeen Valley, will assist T-Gen’s solar power output during cloud cover events. The installation is expected to be completed by early 2018.

"This energy storage system, along with our new machinery at Owen Springs, heralds a new era of power supply for Alice Spring,” said T-Gen CEO Tim Duignan. “We’re replacing aged electricity generators with the latest equipment, to provide efficient and reliable power supply, drive down the cost of producing electricity, and to support a transition to renewable energy."
