Dentons appoints former CommBank exec as Global CFO

He served as the Commonwealth Bank of Australia’s managing director and general manager of global trade and transaction services.

Dentons has appointed Neal Livingston as Global Chief Financial Officer.

Livingston served as the Commonwealth Bank of Australia’s managing director and general manager of global trade and transaction services since 2013.

According to Dentons, Livingston, based in the law firm’s London office, has already assumed his responsibilities. He will oversee all aspects of the Firm’s global strategic and operational finance functions.

“Neal brings a unique set of skills to the task of helping Dentons continue to build a world class, integrated finance function that will enable us to serve clients better,” said Elliott Portnoy, Dentons Global CEO.

“His experience in financial services is especially valuable as Dentons expands beyond the traditional legal services model to offer a wide variety of business solutions,” he added.

The new appointment follows a major reshuffle of Dentons’ US leadership team which saw three senior management team members assume new roles effective by the start of next year.

“Neal is a good fit for the world’s only truly polycentric global law firm,” said Joe Andrew, Dentons Global Chairman. “Having worked in markets as diverse as London, Singapore, Geneva and Chicago, Neal comes to us with an intimate knowledge of the business and legal environments of many of the regions Dentons serves.”

Livingston has had similar assignments with the Royal Bank of Scotland Group and Standard Chartered Bank during the last decade.

His responsibilities included implementing major strategic investments and new operating platforms, leading large teams and running global transaction services, said the world’s largest law firm by number of lawyers.

Prior to entering the financial services field, Livingston held numerous positions, including managing partner and global firm treasurer, during the course of 12 years and multiple postings with Andersen Worldwide, Dentons added.

Livingston earned a BA (Honors) in business administration from the University of Brighton, England. He also earned an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
