The IP expert moved nearly two years ago to become a senior associate at another top firm
An intellectual property (IP) expert has moved back to the firm where he started his career to become a partner.
David Fixler has been hired by Corrs Chambers Westgarth from King & Wood Mallesons, where he moved nearly two years ago to become a senior associate. Fixler began his legal career at Corrs in 2009 and became a senior associate there in 2015.
Fixler will focus on patent litigation matters while advising across the complete range of IP rights. He has extensive experience in these fields, regularly acting for both domestic and international clients from a wide array of industries, including pharmaceuticals, mining, water filtration, fast-moving consumer goods, health insurance, information technology, and steel.
John W.H. Denton AO, Corrs CEO, said that the bulk of the new partner’s work is on high-profile litigation, which would benefit from the firm’s position as a leading independent firm. Fixler understands the commercial needs of clients, Denton said.
The appointment is an indication of the firm’s drive to shore up its expert ranks in the Australian IP litigation market, Denton said.
In May, Corrs added multilingual IP partner Jürgen Bebber in Melbourne.
Earlier this month, Corrs announced that partner Kon Mellos, formerly of Herbert Smith Freehills, is joining the firm. Last month, the firm confirmed the hiring of five partners from Henry Davis York as the latter aimed to complete its merger with Norton Rose Fulbright.
