Corrs CEO appointed Co-Chair of key G20 taskforce

John Denton will help lead the B20’s Financing Growth & Infrastructure Taskforce

Corrs CEO appointed Co-Chair of key G20 taskforce
Corrs Chambers Westgarth CEO John W.H. Denton AO has been appointed Co-Chair of a key task force of the B20, the G20’s official business engagement process.

Denton is the only Australian and only individual from the legal industry who is part of the leadership team of the B20 Financing Growth & Infrastructure Taskforce.

The appointment follows his appointment last year as the First Vice-Chair of the International Chamber of Commerce, the world's largest business organisation with over 6.5 million members in more than 130 countries.

Under the B20, which is included in G20 decision finding processes, the veteran Australian lawyer will co-chair a group that provides high-level recommendations to governments, the global business community and the public.

Specifically, Denton will provide recommendations around global business issues, including frameworks for financial systems that are resilient while fostering growth in the real economy, initiatives to encourage global investment and economic growth, and improving tax cooperation and certainty to foster business development, Corrs said in a statement.

“The B20 is an incredibly important voice for the international business community. It helps shape the agenda for business issues of global significance, and I am honoured to have been asked to be part of this process. With the leadership of B20 Germany, this taskforce has an excellent opportunity to carry forward the legacy we initiated together in Australia to advance the agenda for sound infrastructure investment,” Denton said.

He noted that he will apply the same approach Corrs has, specifically helping clients navigate complex issues and changing environments, for the business community as co-chair of the taskforce.

The B20, like the G20, operates without a permanent secretariat and its agenda and organisation is set by its rotating presidency.

Leading German business associations BDI, DIHK and BDA assumed the presidency of the B20 in September and recently confirmed Denton’s appointment.

Dr Jürgen Heraeus, B20 Chair, commented: “The mission of the B20 is to support the G20 through consolidated representation of interests, concrete policy proposals, and expertise. B20 Germany will considerably gain from John’s precious expertise, experience, and clout, and we are delighted he has accepted our invitation.”
