The project is the first to be submitted under the Victorian government’s new Market-Led Proposals Guideline
Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) and White & Case have advised on a pioneering project in Victoria.
“The West Gate Tunnel Project is the first project to be submitted under the Victorian Government's new Market-Led Proposals Guideline,” said Alan Rosengarten, White & Case’s Melbourne-based joint lead partner.
The global firms acted for Transurban Group on the $6.7bn West Gate Tunnel Project in Melbourne. The project involves widening the West Gate Freeway from eight to 12 lanes, building the state’s longest road tunnel from the West Gate Freeway to the Port of Melbourne, and constructing a bridge over the Maribyrnong River. The road will also feature cutting-edge smart technology.
“As well as providing an alternative to the West Gate Bridge, this project will provide an A$11 billion boost to the Victorian economy, generate 6,000 new jobs and significantly reduce time between the West and the CBD,” said partner Richard Wilkinson, who jointly led the HSF team.
Wilkinson’s joint lead partner was Jon Evans. They were supported by senior associate Joseph Varghese and solicitors Tehanee Bardolia, Tessa Spence and Jessica Voong. Partner Nick Baker led on corporate arrangements.
White & Case’s other joint lead partners are Jo Draper, Tim Power and Cameron Watson.
