Global firm recruits new Tokyo head from NZ

An experienced lawyer is moving back from a New Zealand firm to an international firm to lead its Tokyo office.

Aaron Patience is returning to Simmons & Simmons, which he left in 2014 to move to Kensington Swan as a senior associate. Since 2016, has been leading Kensington Swan’s Japan business team.

Patience, a fluent Japanese speaker, has a deep understanding of the nuances of Japanese business culture, Simmons & Simmons said. He has more than 12 years’ experience in cross-border investment involving Japan.

He has extensive experience in assisting Japanese companies invest and divest in Europe, the Asia Pacific, and the Middle East. He also advises foreign companies investing in Japan.

Patience has particular expertise in transactions with an important IP element, particularly in the TMT and life sciences sectors. These are two of the firm’s core sectors, Simmons & Simmons said.
