Nicole has a unique background in intellectual property law. She has degrees in Law (1st Class Honours) and Electrical Engineering, holds a Masters of Industrial Property and is a registered Australian Trade Marks Attorney.

Before entering the law Nicole worked in the IT industry for 10 years which gives her a greater in-depth understanding of the wider practical impact of legal decisions on businesses.

Her legal expertise has given Nicole broad experience in the information, communications and technology sectors and she has advised some of the world’s largest software, mining, food production and technology companies in all aspects of their intellectual property. In particular Nicole has advised on:

• Registering and enforcing IP Rights including patents, trade marks, copyright issues (and software programs) and designs.

• Technology agreements, including SAAS and other cloud agreements

• Information security, confidential information protection and misuse of confidential information

• Data breaches, un-authorised disclosures, Privacy Act advice, regulatory compliance, mandatory notification laws and breach responses

• Software escrow services

In addition, she acts in complex litigation matters, negotiates licensing agreements to commercialise intellectual property and technology and also acts in mergers and acquisitions of technology and IP rich companies.

With this substantial technical and legal background, Nicole works in partnership with corporate and commercial decision makers to help them future-proof their businesses and ideas. She collaborates with clients to help them achieve their business targets, enable them to make informed decisions and above all be a leader in their marketplaces.
