Law Squared unveils energy and infrastructure practice

Law Squared has unveiled a dedicated new energy and infrastructure practice to speed up land access for significant renewable energy projects.

The new practice will be led by a team of lawyers who are experts in complex property matters, as well as project managers and human-centred technologists. The team will assist in managing land access agreements, options for easement/purchase, long term lease arrangements and compulsory acquisition as necessary.

"The efficient and timely construction of renewable generation and storage, linked by transmission lines, is critical for our energy transition and net-zero objectives. Removing roadblocks and engaging affected landowners and communities effectively is critical to this ambition”, founder and director Demetrio Zema said.

He pointed out that the lack of an effective land access process could stall projects and compromise landowner trust, “leading to delays, increased costs, and potentially, a more onerous land acquisition process”.

"Innovative approaches like this will be crucial for accelerating Australia's transition to a cleaner, more sustainable energy future and ultimately a better way to manage land access and landholder engagement,” said Nino Ficca, chair of the Law Squared advisory board.
